Soccer Players, Their Positions And 3
Famous Players
If you are new to the game of soccer, chances
are that you really have no idea what the different positions
are or what they do. In the professional leagues, they go so
fast on the field that you may not recognize each soccer
player’s role other than the goalie. Therefore, you should
understand at least the bare bones of the positions of soccer
players first and then try and apply them to those fast paced
games you might catch on your favorite sports
channel.
Forwards
There are usually one to three soccer players who play the
Forward position which means they play near the opposing team’s
goal. They are in charge of trying to score and will typically
position themselves near the touchlines as well as near the
middle of the field. Their primary focus is making goals so
this means that they have to be powerful players with a strong
kick, fast and agile running abilities and accurate shooting
style.
Defenders aka Fullbacks
These soccer players typically number three to five per
team, depending on the total number of players in action on the
field. They are positioned near their own team’s goal and their
main job is to defend the goal against the opposing team
scoring against them. Soccer players in this position have the
job of taking return balls from the goalie as well as getting
the ball to their midfielders. Fullbacks need to have good
distance when kicking the ball so they should have good, solid
strength in their legs.
Midfielders aka Halfbacks
Midfielders typically number anywhere from three to six on a
team and they are in charge of stealing the ball from their
opponents and directing to their own forward teammate positions
so that goal attempts can be made. These soccer players are
positioned in the middle of the playing field and must have
quick, agile feet, accurate passing capabilities and superior
tackling savvy.
Goalies
The goalie is one player that most everyone knows and they
are the only soccer players allowed to touch the ball with
their hands. They defend the goal against the opposing team to
try and prevent a scoring. Superior hand-eye coordination is a
must along with fast reactions, strong legs and the ability to
move quickly across the zone. Goalies are the ones jumping and
diving for the ball to prevent the opposing team from scoring
and they also wear a distinct jersey slightly different from
the other soccer players so that they are easy to see
quickly.
A Reflection of Famous Soccer
Players
David Beckham
There are many famous soccer players in the world and David
Beckam is one that has been the biggest sensation in Europe
until he recently moved to the United States. He was born in
Leytonstone on May 2, 1975 and became a Manchester United fan
from a very early age.
Becoming one of the world’s famous soccer players was always
one of David’s goals. He would play for hours on end when he
was a kid to perfect his skills. Soccer has always been the
biggest thing in David Beckham's life. He used to play for
hours when he was a kid.
His father would help him to practice his craft and was
probably one of the most important people in his life who
believed that he would become one of Europe’s famous soccer
players.
David loved soccer so much that he did not do well in school
and when he turned sixteen he went to play soccer for the same
Manchester United team that he admired so much. However, he
started on the junior team and worked his way up later.
David Beckham was instrumental in helping his team go to the
quarterfinals of the World Cup of Soccer in Korea and Japan,
but they lost in the end to Brazil, a team that also had famous
soccer players on its roster. Beckham was later traded to a
team called Real Madrid and was set to earn a salary of $40
million. David Beckham realized his dream of becoming one of
the most famous soccer players in the world. His name is on the
front of numerous newspapers and television screens.
Ronaldinho de Assis Moreira
He was born on 21st March, 1980 in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
His fame took him into another zone when he helped Brazil
win the World under-17 Championship in Egypt. It was at that
time that he received the most recognition and was signed to a
professional contract by a talent scout who sat in the stands
watching the game.
Immediately after he started to play for Copa America, a
Brazilian team, and scored a big game against Venezuela as
Brazil won the game. It is apparent that Ronaldino has made an
impact on the game and is one of the world’s famous soccer
players to be reckoned with.

with the well-known Pele of Brazil. He started playing with
Brazil at the young age of 15 and became one of the greatest
